The Victorian
Junior Dressage Squad was founded in 1994 by people wishing to promote
dressage amongst young riders. There is a very strong, broad base
of young riders in Australia, particularly in the state of Victoria, and
on teh of the main aims of the Squad is to access this pool and develop
the riders' interests in dressage so to create a solid group of yound adult
riders to prolificate the sport.
Dressage in
Australia has never been particularly popular, however enthusiasm for the
sport has elevated quite dramatically over the past few years with some
outstanding performances by Australian riders on the international arena.
The squad looks to harness that enthusiasm and get more young riders involved
in the sport so that it may become stronger and raise Australian dressage
riders to a higher level of competitive prowess.
The squad is
not involved in high level, intensive training. It is there to establish
a large number of young riders into the basics of dressage and provide
opportunities, contacts and avenues for these young riders to move onward
in the discipline.
